A porter who is alleged to have brazenly robbed two policemen who were retrieving video footage from a Georgetown business, in relation to investigation of a recent crime, has been remanded to jail.
The man, O’Neil Ally, 21, a father of one, of 101 Hunter Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was indicted on three counts of robbery under-arms. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations after they were read to him by Magistrate Dylon Bess in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
The unrepresented defendant will make his next court appearance on December 27, for statements.
It is alleged that on December 9, at Georgetown, Ally while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed Police Officer Gary Gordon of a Samsung phone valued $110,000, a wallet, $1170 and an identification card – all totaling $113,170 – property of Gordon.
It is further alleged that on the same day at Georgetown, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Police Officer Eon George of a car key with remote and alarm valued $25,000-property of George.
Finally, Ally is accused of robbing Elvin Parkinson of a BlackBerry cellular phone valued $25,000, a Samsung cell phone and $20,000 cash, while he was armed with a gun, also on December 9.
Police in a release said that the unarmed cops were preparing to retrieve video footage from the Georgetown business location, with respect to the ongoing investigation of a recent crime, when they were attacked by two men. The men relieved the victims of their valuables before escaping on a motorcycle.
However, Ally was subsequently apprehended by police, at Middle Dam, East La Penitence, with a haversack containing two cell phones belonging to the proprietor of the business and an identification card and wallet belonging to one of the ranks.
Initially, Ally pleaded guilty with explanation to the charges and told the court that he found the articles in a bag.
Based on his explanation, Magistrate Bess entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.
Ally also told the court that he was never convicted for any offences. However, he disclosed that he has a matter pending for using threatening language.
Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris opposed bail for the defendant citing the nature and penalty attached to the offences. Prosecutor Morris also pointed out that firearms were used during the commissioning of the robberies. According to Morris, Ally was positively identified on identification parades by the virtual complainants.
