Three men were yesterday arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts- two for the offence of robbery under-arms and another for simple larceny.
Joshua Adams,18, of Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown and Kevin Smith,20, of Curtis Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, are accused of robbing Marlon Hilliman of $3000 in cash, while they were armed with a chopper, on July 31, at King Street, Georgetown.
Meanwhile, Orin Favourite, 29, of Rosemary Lane, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, is accused of stealing a gold chain valued $135,000 from the person of Charles Hytmiah on June 28, at Leopold Street, Georgetown.
The men, all of whom were unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the allegations read to them by Magistrate Dylon Bess.
Adams, Smith and Favourite were each ordered to post bail to the tune of $75,000.
As condition of bail, Smith and Adams were instructed to report to Sergeant Sarrabo, the Subordinate Officer in Charge of the Brickdam Police Station Criminal Investigation Department (CID) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In relation to the first charge, Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that Hilliman was walking along King Street at around 0:55hrs when he was accosted by the defendants.
He said that the defendants held a chopper to the virtual complainant’s head and relieved him of the cash mentioned in the charge.
According to Morris, Hilliman reported the robbery to a mobile police outpost and the defendants were subsequently arrested and positively identified.
However, Adams and Smith claimed that they were riding a bicycle on the day in question, when they were approached by Hilliman who told them that he was robbed.
The defendants alleged that they advised the man to report the matter to the police.
Smith told the court that he went to prison in 2012 for narcotics.
Favourite denied stealing the gold chain and told the court that he was released from prison last November after serving a sentencing for assault.
Prosecutor Morris had no objections to the men being released on bail. However, he asked that same be granted in a substantial amount considering the prevalence of the offences and the penalty they attract.
The trio will return to court on August 16.
