A 24-year-old East Coast Demerara resident was yesterday remanded to prison for the murder of Terry Lakhan, whose bound and nude body was discovered in a wardrobe at his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home, last Thursday.
It is alleged that on July 21, at Herstelling, David Outar murdered Lakhan during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
The accused, whose address was given as 369 Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
An unrepresented Outar was instructed to make his next court appearance on August 23, before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
According to reports, Lakhan’s body was discovered hanging from a cord in a wardrobe by his neighbour at around 23:00hrs, on the day in question.
The accused reportedly told detectives that he visited Lakhan’s home and was imbibing. Lakhan’s legs and hands were also tied.
Outar alleged that the father of one began making ‘advances’ towards him and he became upset and left the home. It was reported that the accused told investigators that he returned to Lakhan’s home with a friend and they manually strangled the 53-year-old man, before tying a cord around his neck to make it look like he had committed suicide.
An Xbox, clothing and other valuables were removed from the dead man’s home.
It was reported that the killers worked at Gafoors as labourers, while the deceased was a manager at the said company. Another suspect is still on the run.
