All security arrangements were in place as Military Ranks cast their Ballots yesterday at the various police
stations in the Region for Local Governments Elections.
According to Commander ‘E’ Division, Calvin Brutus, polls were open at 06:00 hours. He said that Ituni and Kwakwani Ballot Boxes were sent in Monday afternoon under guard. They were secured at the Kwakwani Police Station while the other three were secured at the Mackenzie Police Station.
The ballot box for Mabura left under guard at 02:30 hrs on Tuesday.
Brutus said that from information received in the outlying areas Ituni, Kwakwani and Mabura have completed voting and they are waiting for 18:00 hrs to escort the boxes back to Mackenzie Station.
He said that at the Wismar Police Station voting is still ongoing because some of the ranks are at court and will be voting after. “Those who came from Georgetown last week, they were new, their names are not on this list, so we have arranged transportation to take them to Georgetown. They have already gone to Georgetown. There are 20 of them.”
Brutus said that they are just waiting for the process to be completed and then the Ballot Boxes will be escorted back to Georgetown.
Other ranks said that the process was simple and the GECOM staff was very cooperative.
