After being crowned champions for the float parade last year, the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s ‘A’ Division youth groups will be participating in the Children’s Mash Competition to retain its title.
So prepare to be impressed come February 20. The areas of competition will include dance, calypso, dramatic poetry, costume display, choral presentation and the children’s parade.
Mashramani theme this year is “Celebration of Diversity, Unit and Sovereignty.”
Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken said, “We have participated in the competition using the youth groups (last year) and we were crowed champions for the float parade so we decided that this year we will be participating in the children mash to retain our title.”
He continued, “Look out and you will see the police youth group vying to maintain the crown this year. We are at an advanced stage of the competition where we had the blessing of the Commissioner of Police.”
The Commander said that the float will depict the six races and the youth groups will be wearing the clothing to showcase the ethnic groups.
Last year, the groups that took part in the parade were Central Georgetown Rising Stars, Grove Kaleidoscope, Mocha Rising Stars, the Royal Future Generation, the Carnegie Course, Tiger Bay Trend Changers and the Kitty/ North/Sophia/ Alberttown and Queenstown youth group.
There is a senior police officer assigned to each group.
