A man who is so well known by the authorities that he is being described as a kleptomaniac, has been remanded to jail on numerous charges including Break and Enter and Larceny, Simple Larceny, Robbery under Arms and Throwing Missiles.
Jamal Monroe, called ‘Ocko’, 18, of Lot 31 Savannah Park, New Amsterdam, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Friday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecuting Sergeant Godfrey Playter informed the court that on November 25, last, at Lot 48 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Monroe broke and entered the dwelling house of Curtis Bristol and stole one 20-inch television set valued $119,000. He is also accused of, on February 16, last, stealing two pairs of jeans and a charger from Lancelot Bennett. This incident took place at Cummingsville, New Amsterdam.
On April 2, 2014 at Cummingsville Housing Scheme, Monroe is accused of threatening Charles Joseph. He is also charged with unlawfully assaulting Charles Joseph and throwing missiles at his house while using threatening language.
On the same day, Munroe is accused of, while being armed with a knife, robbing Navin Harrinarine of one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued $100,000.
In court he pleaded guilty to the threatening behaviour charge, but pleaded his innocence of the other charges. He also accused the police of harassing him and taking away his money.
Further, he sprung a surprise when he informed the court that at the time of his arrest he had ganja in his possession, but surprisingly was not charged. He stated that he had one gram of marijuana which he used.
He was denied bail, and remanded to jail until May 16.
