In Berbice another wanted man has been placed behind bars. Known felon, Krisendat Seeram, called ‘Apple Boy’, 22, of Lot 34 North Black Bush Polder who was wanted in the $1.7M Black Bush Polder robbery that occurred on April 22, has been remanded to jail until May 20,
Seeram appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh in the Whim Magistrate’s Court, Corentyne, on the charge of robbery under arms. He was not required to plead.
The man, and his brother, prison escapee Vinood Gopaul, while armed, are accused of barging through a back door of the Yakusari North, Black Bush Polder home of Baijnauth Niwaz, 58, and his wife Kalawattie Niwaz, brutalizing them before taking away a bag with the cash.
An improvised shotgun was found at the scene. The robbers are known to the couple.
The couple who are rice farmers were relaxing at their home when they were attacked and robbed by two bandits around 19:00 hrs. The men who were known in the area, then made good their escape. The man and his wife were subsequently hospitalized at the Anamayah Memorial Hospital and discharged a day later.
The police had arrested a man who was close to the couple and was seen with the brothers earlier in the day. The cops subsequently raided two houses in which the men were said to be hiding in Yakusari on Sunday. They found Seeram hiding in some bushes.
During the raid the police also held two other brothers- Jairaj, called ‘Dera Boy’, 25, of the same address and Davenra Rai called ‘Papo’, 32. They also arrested Seeram’s uncle, Drinan Sumraj, 53, of 111 Yakusari Black Bush Polder. The police also found three cell phones during the raid.
Wanted man Gopaul of 34 Yakusari, Black Bush Polder, was remanded to prison on a charge of allegedly murdering his father. He was among four persons who had escaped from the New Amsterdam prison in June 2011.
