Members of the United States-based, Guyana Medical Relief Inc. (GMR), last Thursday
handed over a newly-constructed $5M annex to the Bartica Hospital.
Chief Operating Officer of the outfit, Sharir Chan, yesterday told Kaieteur News that the additional accommodation will be used for Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) testing of females for cervical cancer and for Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) for HIV-AIDS.
The flat concrete building was built by the GMR.
The hospital will provide the equipment and staff required for the annex.
Chan handed over the keys to Regional Health Officer for Region 7, Merlene Ferrier, who accepted them on behalf of the Region. Also at the handing over ceremony were Regional Executive Officer (REO), Peter Ramotar, Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO), Deryck Persaud, and senior hospital staffers, Sister Cecelia Austin and Nurse Sonia Burnette.
