Elma Adams gracefully celebrated her 102 birthday yesterday with friends and family
at the Medical Arts Institute. There was an assortment of balloons, food, drinks and cake to set the celebration in motion. Everyone present flocked Adams for pictures.
Adams was born in Georgetown in 1909 and moved to Bartica when she married at the age of 22. She was a Home Economics teacher during her stay in Bartica with her husband Joseph Adams. She had no biological children, but according to relatives she adopted all of her nieces and nephews.
They added that her home was the warmest place to visit, not in temperature, but in love. Everyone would gather around her because of her alluring affectionate nature.
She left Bartica after her husband died in 1978 and moved back to Georgetown. She is the only survivor of seven siblings.
