Philbert Cush, 48, who gave his address as Canje and Sophia, Georgetown ,was on Monday sentenced to three years in jail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her on the charge of break and enter and larceny.
According to the prosecution led by Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, Cush’s father, Campton Cush, 70, of 16 Main and New Streets, New Amsterdam, secured his premises and went out on February 16, last. When he returned some time after he noticed his house broken into, ransack and a number of items missing. A report was made at the Central police station. Acting on information the police arrested Cush who admitted to the crime.
He told investigators that the house was his father’s house and he went in. In court, he pleaded guilty, but told the Magistrate that he preferred to break into his father’s house than a stranger’s.
He was sentenced to three years in jail.
He was heard mumbling, “How could I break into my father’s house? My father’s house is my house.”
