The ceremonial opening of the October session of the Berbice High Court was held on Tuesday with the usual pomp and ceremony outside the Berbice High Court building on Esplanade Road, New Amsterdam.
Taking the salute was Justice Dawn Gregory-Barnes who will preside in the Criminal sessions of the court. She also inspected the Guard of Honour. She was accompanied by Justice Diana Insanally, who is presiding over the civil court; Commander of ‘B’ division Assistant Commissioner Steven Merai; and cadet Officers Ian Williams and Rupert Das. The police Guard of Honour comprised 29 ranks led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Keith Booker, Inspector William Henry and Sergeant Shurland Semple.
Also escorting the judge were Senior Superintendent and Second in charge of B division Christopher Griffith and Deputy Superintendent Kevin Adonis.
During the session eight murders, two attempted murders, two carnal knowledge and three cases of robbery under arms are to be heard by Justice Gregory-Barnes.
