Three masked bandits armed with a toy gun and two cutlasses on Tuesday robbed shop keeper Patricia Bess, 54, of Mai Mai Dam, Angoy’s Avenue in New Amsterdam.
According to reports, around 20:00 hrs the woman was in her shop which she operates in the bottom flat of her house when a customer came in to purchase cigarettes.
The woman had just finished selling the customers the cigarettes they required when she was accosted by three masked men.
One of the men was armed with a toy gun while the other two brandished cutlasses.
The bandits proceeded to beat the woman, while demanding that she hand over money. She was cuffed and battered about the body.
The bandits eventually escaped with $65,000 which was in a small plastic bucket on a table. They also assaulted the man who had moments earlier purchased the cigarettes. After not finding much on him they beat him and threw him in a drain, before escaping.
In their bid to escape the bandit with the gun, dropped the weapon. The police were summoned and responded promptly.
They scoured the area, but the thieves had made good their escape. The toy gun was retrieved.
According to a senior rank in the division the bandits seem to be the same set that committed the robbery on the fisherwoman and her family a few days ago.
On that occasion the family allegedly lost over $2M in cash and jewelry, including $200,000, US$400 and C’dn$400 and other valuables that were in a bag.
