A drinking spree between two friends at Belmont, Mahaica, ended with one of them stabbing the other yesterday afternoon.
Dead is Deochand Sirkissoon, 38, of lot 46 Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. He received a single stab wound to his neck.
The suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Sirkissoon and his buddy were having their normal drink when an argument ensued.
Sirkissoon was stabbed in the neck and he ran into a nearby yard, clutching the wound to stem the gushing of the blood.
He lay bleeding as neighbours frantically tried to secure a vehicle to transport him to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
However, by the time he reached at the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, he was already dead. Sirkissoon’s brother, Ramdeo told this newspaper that he was at work when he learnt of the murder.
He could not say what led to the stabbing of his brother but related that the police informed him about his brother’s death.
“I hear ‘Sluggish’ kill my brother. They does drink together,” Ramdeo Sirkissoon told this newspaper.
Police returned to the scene with the suspect last evening and are in the process of taking statements as they continue their investigation.
