The organizers of Miss Guyana World have selected UK-based Guyanese, Aletha Shepherd, to represent Guyana at the Miss World pageant in Sanya.
Shepherd, 22, aspires to be a successful business woman. Her hobbies include reading, Bikram Yoga, polo, wakeboarding, ice-skating, badminton, dancing, going to the movies/theatre, fashion and art. Her favourite dish is roti and curry.
Her personal motto is: ‘Live life to the fullest, be the best that you can be’.
Shepherd grew up listening to Calypso and Soca music.
In an interview for the Miss World website, she said her memorable day was becoming a big sister when her sister, Amari, was born.
She describes herself as a very ambitious, enthusiastic person with a huge personality. She also describes herself as a confident and creative person who is able to socialise well.
“I enjoy challenges and have a positive outlook on life,” she says. Her ambition is to be a successful business woman and also to pursue her passion for acting.
This year’s Miss World event returns to China, with the final set to take place on Saturday October 30, in the city of Sanya, located in China’s Hainan province.
Contestants from over 120 countries will be competing in Miss World’s 60th Final which will begin Miss World’s diamond anniversary year. A busy, four week itinerary is being planned for the contestants across the whole of China, culminating in the live, televised final.
Miss World is the longest running event of its kind.
