Despite his continued denial, 21-year-old Randolph Jubhan was remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with robbery under arms.
Jubhan, of Logwood, Enmore, is accused of robbing Mahaica supermarket owner, Samdeo Singh, last Saturday night. At the time, Jubhan was reportedly with two other men. Kaieteur News understands that he was picked out from identification parade by the robbery victim.
The police breakthrough came when the supermarket owner was able to provide them with the licence of the bandit’s getaway car.
The police were able to track the car to the village of Enmore with its engine still warm less than an hour after the robbery.
Apart from Jubhan, investigators had detained the female owner of the car after conflicting accounts of the movements of the vehicle were given to the police.
The owner of the car was subsequently released but the vehicle remains in police custody. On Saturday night supermarket owner Samdeo Singh, his wife and their three-year-old son were heading home after closing up their business place when their path was blocked by another car.
After being forced to stop, they were confronted by two men who held them at gunpoint and took away a bag containing $3M.
The other suspects in the robbery have not been captured but Jubhan is to return to court on February 18.
