A 47-year-old security guard was slashed to death shortly after 20:00 hrs yesterday evening in Regent Street.
Reports said that Lennox O’ Dean, an employee of R.K’s Security Service and of Lot 83, Linden Drive, Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, was found lying in the vicinity of Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic, bleeding profusely from wounds to the right side of his neck and right leg.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by ranks from the City Constabulary and a police traffic rank, where he succumbed in the Accident and Emergency Unit at around 20:30 hrs.
It is believed that O’Dean was the victim of a brutal robbery. However, he was still wearing his watch when he was found.
A colleague of the slain man told Kaieteur News that O’Dean was one of two guards who were working outside Beepat’s Store yesterday.
His shift ended at around 19:30 hrs and he caught a minibus in Regent Street and headed to the East Coast Demerara bus park.
It is believed that he was attacked shortly after disembarking the bus.
According to the colleague, O’Dean was the victim of two robberies within the past two weeks.
