Guyana’s fourth Executive President, Mrs. Janet Jagan, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Saturday at 00:35 hrs, she was 88.
Apart from being the nation’s first female President, Mrs. Jagan who was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on October 20, 1920, was Guyana’s first woman Deputy Speaker, first woman to be elected to the Georgetown City Council, first woman cabinet minister under self-government and later the first female Prime Minister.
