“After making three trips, I recommend that every minibus operator and taxi drivers disinfect their vehicles using anti-bacterial products.”
This statement was made by United Minibus Union (UMU) President, Eon Andrew.
In a recent interview with Kaieteur News, Mr. Andrews stated that it is the duty of the drivers to protect themselves and their passengers.
Since Guyana recorded its first case of the deadly Coronavirus, persons are being urged to take all precautions to protect themselves, and their family members from the deadly virus.
Kaieteur News understands that while some drivers are taking the necessary precautions, other drivers refuse to do so.
According to Mr. Andrews, “The operators need to arrange themselves in such a way that they will be able to take the necessary precautions because they themselves are in the open most of the time.”
Mr. Andrews is pleading with drivers to have dialogue with their passengers so that everyone will be aware of what will be new steps in containing the virus.
Andrews is adamant that all members of the Minibus Union should pay attention to safety measures being put in place.
Last Wednesday, Guyana confirmed its first case of the deadly Coronavirus after the remains of a woman who returned from Queens, New York tested positive for the virus. (Anastacya Peters)
