The Guyana Amazon Warriors stormed into a second consecutive CPL final
with a thumping ten-wicket win over defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs in St Kitts on Thursday and they will look to blunt the Barbados Tridents and take their first title after faltering at the final hurdle last year. The two teams clash at Warner Park in St Kitts from 4:00pm today.
Thursday’s triumph was sweet revenge for the Warriors after they lost the title to Jamaica last year and were beaten in the preliminary stages in a close contest between the two sides.
The Guyana franchise team has shown excellent form throughout the tournament, suffering close losses in the games they did lose. Thursday the Amazon Warriors’ victory was the first instance of a team winning with a ten-wicket margin in the CPL.
The ominous form of Martin Guptill and Lendl Simmons who took less than 15 overs to overhaul a target of 135, must be cause for worry for the Tridents. With the likes of Skipper Denesh Ramdin also good with the bat, Christopher Barnwell, Jimmy Neesham and Mohammed Hafeez all offer excellent support in the batting.
Led by the mystery man, Sunil Narine in the bowling department, Ronsford Beaton, Neesham, Hafeez and Kishmar Santokie could prove formidable as they did Thursday, limiting the Tallawahs to 138.
However, it is not all cut and dried for the Warriors as the Barbados Tridents will also want to claim the crown.
Led by Kieron Pollard and his all round impressive showing, the Tridents will get support from Dwayne Smith at the top with the bat, Jeevan Mendis, Jonathan Carter along with Jason Holder, Ravi Rampaul and Rayad Emrit will carry the team’s challenge against the rampaging Warriors.
An exciting game is anticipated.
