One woman was killed and another injured following a boat collision near Fowl Mouth, in the Essequibo River at around 19:00 hrs on Wednesday.
Sources identified the dead woman as Donna Rampersaud, of Fowl Mouth, a community located some three miles from Bartica. The injured woman, said to be from the same community, was identified as Melina Williams.
Williams was said to be manning a vessel that was coming from Fowl Mouth, and in which Rampersaud was also travelling, when the mishap occurred.
The other boat, which had one occupant, was heading from Bartica, and the collision occurred shortly after the vessels had left the two neighbouring communities.
Kaieteur News was told the boat with the single passenger ‘rode over’ the craft in which Rampersaud and Williams were travelling.
According to reports, it was raining at the time, both vessels were unlit and none of the occupants were wearing life jackets.
Williams was reportedly admitted to the Bartica Hospital while the pilot of the other vessel has been detained.
