Karibee Rice KO Football
The Karibee Rice Football Tournament sponsored by Karibee Rice Company got off to a lukewarm start over the weekend with one of the four matches scheduled for the weekend being played.
In the opening game scheduled for Saturday last at the Burnham Park, Monnederlust FC of West Berbice earned a walkover from Pistons FC of East Berbice, only six Pistons players showed up for the encounter.
The second game scheduled for Burnham Park on Sunday between Cougars FC of East Berbice and Rosignol United FC of West Berbice did not play due to the unplayable condition of the field. This game has been rescheduled for this Saturday at the #5 Ground.
Over at the GFC Ground in the city, BK Int. Western Tigers of Georgetown swamped Young Achievers of West Demerara 10-1; the half time score read 2-1. Young Achievers were a replacement for Dem Amstel FC who opted out due to receiving the fixture late.
Goal scorers for the Tigers were Orville Milton in the 5th minute, Philip Rowley 25th, 72nd and 80th minute, Randolph Wagner 50th, Gavin Wilson 56th and 76th minute, Rensford Coldridge 60th and 67th minute and Leon Yaw 74th minute. Young Achievers’ lone goal was scored in the 27th minute.
The Pele FC / Victoria King’s match-up did not come off due to the non appearance of Victoria Kings as a result of miscommunication between the club, the organisers and a GFF official. Pele was awarded a walk over by the organisers.
The semi finals are scheduled for Sunday October 14. At the Blairmont Ground, West Berbice, Monnederlust will oppose the winner of the Cougars FC and Rosignol United match commencing at 15:30 hrs.
In the City at GFC, Western Tigers will come up against Pele in the other game from 18:00 hrs.
The Final and third place matches are scheduled for Sunday October 21st at the GFC Ground. The winning team will pocket $200,000; second place $100,000; third place $50,000.
The other five teams will all receive $10,000 each.
