Abigail McDonald will place her national scrabble title on the line when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) Stages its national scrabble Championships at the Bank of Guyana
Sports Club between Sunday October 23 and Sunday October 30 next. The players would also compete on Wednesday October 26.
Twenty one players would start the tournament, each playing a total of 20 games over the three days period. The first fifteen top seeds will automatically qualify for the tournament while the other six competitors will be required to contest for a place at a specially arranged tournament on 25th September.
The organizers are requesting that the top 15 ranked players, especially those that have been inactive recently, to indicate by Thursday September 22 of their interest in participating in an effort to identify those players that automatic qualify.
The Nationals are the most prestigious tournament on the GASP calendar of activities and prizes would be just as lucrative. The winner of the championships carts off $50,000 and a trophy, while the second finisher wins $30,000 and a trophy.
The person to occupy the final podium spot goes away with $20,000 and a trophy, while the 4th, 5th and 6th positions win $12,000, $8,000 and $5,000 respectively.
The player forming the most bingos in the tournament wins a trophy, the same as the persons that amass the highest individual game score and the highest individual play.
A trophy will also go to the best emerging player. The entrance fee will be $1,500.
