A Prison Officer who was on the job for just about one week before he was caught smuggling narcotics into the Penitentiary will have to spend time in the same institution after he was jailed for three years on Friday.
The man, Alfred George, 22, of 43 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was jailed by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court on a charge of introducing Narcotics to the Prison.
The case for the prosecution as presented by Corporal Shurland King was that on February 10, 2008, about 14:40 hrs George who had started working there on February 2, 2008 was nabbed with 4 ½ grams of narcotics by his colleagues after they got a tip that he was smuggling narcotics into the prison.
When he was searched the drug was found concealed in five small zip lock bags in his right side socks, along with cigarettes, which were found concealed in both his right and left side socks.
He was on bail pending trial and conviction.
