Convicted pirate Kevin ‘Long Hair’ Narine, who broke out of New Amsterdam Prison with three others last month, has reportedly been arrested in Suriname.
According to GFC Nieuws, the Guyanese criminal who has been linked to a spate of pirate attacks off the coasts of Guyana and Suriname, was arrested in Paramaribo North ,Thursday night. The online medium did not yet receive official confirmation from the authorities on the arrest report; also much detail on the apprehension was not available yet.
Narine aka Ram Sookdial, was serving a nine-year sentence in the New Amsterdam prison for armed robbery on the high seas, when he escaped prison in early June. Together with him were murder accused Rickford La Fleur alias Rickford Williams, 35; Vinood ‘Mango’ Gopaul, 19; and Vijay Seenarine, 33, who was awaiting trial on a charge of carnal knowledge.
Vijay Seenarine, was captured last month while walking along J.C. Chandisingh Road at Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice. Reports were that Seenarine had disclosed that following their escape, they had raided a camp along the bank of the Corentyne River and had relieved the occupants of four shotguns.
The four criminals were suspected of involvement in recent high seas robberies on at least 15 small fishing boats. During one of the attacks, one fisherman was shot in the shoulder.
Local authorities placed their counterparts in Suriname on alert following the escape of the four men, after their search at home came up empty. Narine who is considered dangerous, apparently has strong family ties with Suriname.
Ram Sookdial, called Kevin “Long Hair” Narine, was first remanded to prison on August 7, 2008 by Magistrate Chandra Sohan on several counts of robberies under arms.
A Commission of Inquiry headed by Retired Major General Norman McLean has since been set up to examine the circumstances of the escape.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
