The ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has condemned a “poll” conducted by the Caribbean Development Research Service Inc.
The party sees the poll as the beginning of a campaign by certain opposition forces to confuse and mislead the masses of Guyana.
According to the PPP, the poll is reminiscent of one done by Dick Morris and commissioned by the Alliance for Change (AFC).
“In March 2006, Morris confidently predicted that the AFC will do enough to hold the balance of power in Parliament. In August of that same year, the “Kaieteur News” reported “…At a press conference Friday at the party’s (AFC) Cummings Street Office, Morris said that it was observed that, based on recent polls, the AFC has surged pass the PNCR-1G and now holds a firm second place while the PPP/C remains in the lead.
“According to the Arcop poll, the PPP/C is in the first place with 36% of the votes, the AFC in second with 27% and the PNCR-1G in third with 19%…”
The PPP declared that “of course Morris, the AFC and their ‘poll’ were dead wrong. The PPP won 54.5% of the votes. The AFC came in last.”
The party said the latest poll “bears great resemblance to the fraudulent one pushed by the AFC in 2006 which gave the PPP/C 36%, this one now says the PPP has 38%.”
This poll also claims that the AFC would out strip the PNCR, the same prediction, the PPP recalled, was made in 2006.
“This type of bogus poll reflects the desperation of some sections of the opposition as it notes the big and enthusiastic reception that the PPP/C is getting wherever it goes. Most recent was the Cabinet Outreach in Region 3, on June 2, last,” the PPP stated.
The poll, the party said, is clearly a move to try to confuse people in this country.
“The popularity of the PPP and the PPP/C government has never been so high. Do not be fooled by fraudsters as we have witnessed in 2006 and repeated now,” the PPP stated.
