Some teachers attached to the Diamond Secondary School, East Bank Demerara, are calling on the Board of Directors of the school to inform them of their official position at the institution ever since they were transferred there last year June.
Kaieteur News also understands that the head teacher of the school has not been paid her monthly salary since February, without any official explanation from the Department of Education in Region Four.
Last year, approximately 20 teachers who held senior positions were transferred from schools on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara to the Diamond Secondary School. However, to date the board of directors at the school has not regularized the teachers’ positions at the school, although the teachers have asked for this to be done.
As a result of the board’s refusal to do this, the teachers have since written their previous school, requesting to be transferred from Diamond Secondary.
The school is a ‘C’ grade institution, which has the capacity to house between 250 and 300 students, but the school currently has a total of 725 students.
This newspaper was told that the teachers are very worried about their positions at the school, and are urging the board of directors to look into their situation as early as possible.
