– body leaves for Cuba today
A heavy atmosphere pervaded the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday, as friends, family and loved ones of Dr Ricardo Beaza Corrizon convened to bid farewell to the Cuban orthopedic surgeon, a few hours before his body was flown to Havana, Cuba for burial.
Glowing tributes abounded as Dr. Ricardo’s colleagues and friends bid him goodbye.
“Dr Ricardo had endeared himself to the Guyanese society, thus earning immense love and respect,” noted Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy, who spoke glowingly of Dr Ricardo’s work.
He revealed that he was very instrumental in working out the ramifications of the dead surgeon’s contractual agreement with the Government years ago.
Minister Ramsammy said that he had no regrets for making the decision, since Dr. Ricardo turned out to be a major asset at the Georgetown Hospital and, by extension, the Guyanese society.
“He is not with us, but has left us with a dream. Let’s not allow his work to go in vain. He deserves no less.”
The Health Minister pointed out that Dr. Ricardo had given yeoman service to the Guyanese community, and every Guyanese should be grateful. “He came from a different country and immersed himself in our medical fraternity as though he was our own.
“Adios mi compadre (Good bye, my friend), we were glad to know you. May your soul rest in peace,” the minister concluded.
Earlier, Director of Medical and Professional Services, Dr. Madan Rambarran, bemoaned the loss of Dr. Ricardo, saying that the medical fraternity had lost a valuable asset. The doctor’s body will be flown to Havana, Cuba today for burial.
Doctor Ricardo Beaza Corrizon died instantly when his vehicle plunged into the North Road canal moments after he had left the Latino Bar on December 31.
A police release had indicated that Ricardo Beaza, 47, was driving his motor vehicle along North Road when he lost control of it.
His relatives and close acquaintances believe that he fell asleep at the wheel and ended up in the canal. The late doctor leaves to mourn his wife and two children.
