Several foreign companies were among the bidders that submitted bids for a multimillion-dollar Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)-funded Sea and River Defence Project here.
Three of the eight sites that were revealed earlier this year for works, made it on the agenda at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).
These three sites came under the “Lot one” category, and include: Site one, Johanna Cecelia/Zorg, Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam); Site two, Success Leguan Island, Region 3 (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara; and Site three, Endeavour/Blenheim, Leguan Island.

The then Coordinator of the Work Services Group Geoffrey Vaughn – now Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure – had noted during the ministry’s End-of-Year Conference last year, that these works will aid in improving flood protection infrastructure in Regions that are most affected by flooding.
He noted also that various lengths of work will be carried out at these locations.
The other five locations that he would have listed in his presentation last year are: Grove/Look Out, East Bank Essequibo, Region 3; Crane/Harlem/Rotterdam/Mary, West Coast Demerara, Region 3; Good Success/New Hope, East Bank Demerara, Region 4 (Mahaica/Berbice); Lonsdale/Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice, Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne); and No. 78 Village to Line Path, Corentyne, Region 6.
Meanwhile, tenders were open for the construction of a Maternity Ward at the New Amsterdam Hospital Compound, Region Six.
The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) was listed as the procuring entity.
Contractors also vied for the contract to rehabilitate the Main Street, East Canje, Berbice.
The RDC for Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) is the procuring entity for the construction of the Liberty Primary School, Lower Pomeroon River.
Bids were also submitted for the extension of the Charity Secondary School, Essequibo Coast Region 2.
The RDC was listed as the procuring entity for the extension of Kabakaburi Primary School, Upper Pomeroon River.
Finally, bids were submitted for the supply of 7,500 Tons of Asphaltic Concrete for the East Bank Berbice Road Project.
