…400 gallon water tank comes crashing down
Just as Justice James Bovell-Drakes was about to begin trial in a manslaughter matter in the Berbice High Court, a 400-gallon water tank situated on some beams above the Judge’s Chambers, adjacent to the jurors room,
broke the beam and crashed down, flooding the upper flat of the High Court.
The sudden crashing sound of the full water tank caused panic in the court rooms.
At the time of the commotion sessions were also being held in the Civil and Land Court
There was chaos as no one was sure of the source of the noise as gallons of water began pouring from above into the criminal court and hall way.
Some of the water also made its way into the Land Court. This led to staff, civilians, police and others who were in the precincts of the court on business to scamper to safety, But the curious few were running in the opposite direction to see what was the cause of the disturbance. Justice Bovell-Drakes immediately adjourned court as sessions in all three courts were disrupted.
The hallways and the criminal court, including the chambers of Justice Drakes were completely flooded.
Session subsequently resumed in the Civil and Land Courts while the morning session of the Criminal court was called off until 13:00 hrs.
