Football referees from around the country will take part in the second FIFA Fitness Test today at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary starting at 15:00 hours.
The Fitness Test will attract close to 60 male and female referees from Bartica, Berbice, Georgetown, Linden, West Demerara and East Demerara who will compete in the following categories FIFA referees (male and female), FIFA assistant referees (male and female) and national referees and assistant referees.
The programme is organized by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in collaboration with the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) and provides referees with an opportunity to improve their level of fitness ahead of local, regional and international matches.
The results from the tests will be submitted to FIFA (Federation of International Football) for appraisal and action.
The Test will be supervised GFF Fitness Instructor Lindley Langhorne, Referees Coordinator Roy Mc Arthur and Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith, GFF Administrator.
The first test for 2011 was held on March 6 at Eve Leary.
Secretary of the Guyana Football Referees Council, Troy Peters, expressed gratitude to the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force for their kind assistance. He said the GFRC appreciates the support of Commissioner of Police, Henry Green and Colonel Bruce Lovell.
Meanwhile, Anson Ambrose of Georgetown, Dwayne Johnson of East Coast Demerara and Milton Reynolds of Berbice were successful at a recently held Fitness Instructors Training Course conducted by Langhorne at the GFF Office.
Langhorne said the participants were exposed to both theory and practical sessions and will be better equipped to conduct FIFA Fitness test and to evaluate referees locally.
