Bibi Azeez, 45, who was described by Police prosecutor, Sergeant Lionel Harvey, yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court as a well known imposter was again slapped with the charge of obtaining money under false pretence.
To the charge she pleaded not guilty.
Azeez was brought by the police before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry. The woman was represented by defense counsel Patrice Henry.
According to the police, the accused, between April 1, 2009 and November 30, 2009, obtained from Vidia Sankar the sum of $1.3 million, under the deception that she was in the position to procure a seaman’s visa for Sankar.
After some time had elapsed and the accused fail to produce the document, Sankar reported the matter to the police.
Unfortunately, after an investigation was launched, lawmen were unable to apprehend the accused until two days ago.
The prosecutor further added that the accused has pending matters before the court. She was granted $300,000 bail on those matters but still continued to carry out offences similar in nature.
Harvey made a submission for the accused to be released on a substantive amount of bail so as to ensure that she report for her trial.
The accused who hails from Campbellville, Georgetown, is a mother of one.
Patrice Henry in his bail application, request that his client be admitted to bail in a sensible sum.
Magistrate Beharry allowed Azeez bail in the sum of $300,000 and set the matter for a second hearing on February 28.
