Neil Reece continued to churn out victories in the field of Cycling in the Ancient county with another dominant display to take top honours in the Felix Austin Police B Division training school one year anniversary cycling event.
The race was held in collaboration with the Flying Ace Cycling club and coordinated by Coach Randolph Roberts and brought the curtains down on the college’s week of activities.
Though bothered by the flu, Reece was able to still dominate his opponents to take the 40-mile event in a time of 1 hr .58 minutes.
The race which was held on Sunday last, started in front of the Training school base at Adventure, Corentyne then proceeded to No 66 Village before turning back to end at the point of origin.
The event was opened to cyclist in both Region 5 and 6 which take in both East and West Berbice, saw the 18 cyclists being sent on the way around 09:20 hrs by Commandant of the training school Superintendent Ian Amsterdam.
As the riders made their way on the upward journey Reece quickly dropped his competitors and proceeded on a one man journey, however he was roped in by another junior rider Delon Desa who was the lone rider from Region 5, as the two youngsters’ battled for championship honours.
Try as Reece may he could not shake of the determined Desa.
The battle came down to the finish with Reece using his superior sprinting power to race home by about a length in a close encounter.
Desa in finishing second upstaged Rohan Persaud, Nashane Jaundoo Wasim Hasnoo and Dwight Holder.
Reece took four of the Prime prizes available with Desa taking two with second place Jaundoo taking the other two. Top female Cyclist Marcia Dick was once again a one woman show as she won on the distaff side.
The respective winners were presented with the silverware immediately after the event by Superintendent Amsterdam, Inspector Stephens and other staff members of the training institution.
The Commandant speaking at the presentation ceremony congratulated the participants while giving special commendation for the winners and words of encouragement for the non winners.
He said that the Training school will make the race an annual event and plans to make it a bigger spectacle.
The B division traffic department under the command of Deputy Superintendent Kevin Adonis and his ranks once again came in for high praise for a job well done.
