The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports Inter-Block sporting programme continues to spread its wings as it is set to add volleyball to the list of activities.
After a start with football, Parliamentary Secretary within the sports ministry Steve Ninvalle had indicated that their intention was to involve other sporting disciplines. Earlier this week it was announced that the basketball aspect of the programme will start at Linden later this month.
It a brief telephone conversation with this newspaper, Ninvalle indicated that the volleyball programme will commence in just over a week’s time in Lethem, Region 9 area. The programme is fixed for August 21-23.
A total 15 teams will compete, nine male and six female sides representing various areas in Region 9. The males will field teams – St Ignatius, Kumu, Black Knights, Gladiators, Parishara, Shiriri, Shulinab, El Dorado and Massana. The ladies will have – St Ignatius, Black Knights, Shiriri, Moco Moco, Gladiators and Parishara.
Ninvalle indicated the desire to continuing close work with the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) who has been instrumental in this event being staged.
The PS who has been involved in the various programmes, will be in Lethem to open and be present to witness and reward the eventual winners at the conclusion.
