The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) has organised the Linden Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Under 19 Linden Regional Zone Conference for schools in Linden which bounces off tomorrow with two matches at the Mackenzie High School hard court.
The tournament will see six schools in Linden participating for a chance to represent the Mining Town in the YBG National Basketball Festival which will be staged after the conclusion of this tournament from June 28 in Georgetown.
The opening matches tomorrow will start with game one when home team Mackenzie High are to meet Linden Foundation Secondary from 14.00hrs and the second game brings together Linden Technical Institute and Wisburg Secondary from 16.00hrs.
The tournament continues on Saturday with a triple header this time. Starting at 13.00hrs is the match between Wisburg Secondary and Mackenzie High, followed by New Silvercity Secondary and Linden Technical Institute meeting at 14.30hrs and the third game at 16.00hrs is between Christianburg Wismar Secondary ‘Multi’ and Linden Foundation Secondary.
The tournament has trophies and medals for the top three teams and will be played on a round robin format initially to determine the semifinals and then the final placing.
The tournament will continue next Monday with a double header and it is anticipated that the action will be very competitive.
Players must be born on January 1, 2000 or after to be eligible for this tournament and any team who plays an over-aged player will not get any points for that game and will automatically forfeit it. Teams are to receive two points for a win and a lost one point for their efforts.
Any protest must be written and lodged with the organisers the LABA within twenty four hours of the completion of the game in dispute.
