Nicholas Verwey stayed on improved form and dispensed of Demetrius DeAbreu in straight games to stamp his authority on the fourth day of the Farfan and Mendes Junior Skill-level Squash Tournament at the Georgetown Club on Friday night.
Verwey’s retrieval skills and attacking returns made it difficult for DeAbreu to get ahead and he dominated the first two games before DeAbreu dug deep and fought through the third to reach 9 points with some superb drops and well placed lobs.
However, Verwey was hunting every ball and maintained his clean slate in his category taking the match 11/3, 11/5, 11/9.
Caribbean U-15 Champion Shomari Wiltshire remains firmly in control despite outstanding performances from Michael Alphonso throughout the week, there simply is no match for the talented Wiltshire in the junior pool of players. He made light work of Friday Evening’s games with a 11/2, 11/1, 11/1 win over Alphonso. In the other Category A game, Samuel Ince-Carvalhal held off Gianni Carpenter in a close match between the two left handers, with a 3/0 win.
In Category C, Zachary Persaud won both of his matches easily, while in Category G Tiana Gomes and Matthew Darby went toe to toe with a 13/11, 11/9 victory for Darby. The two youngsters both showed great spirit and enjoyed some interesting rallies before Darby took the win.
The older Persuad siblings both shared victories in category E before facing each other in a bout where Aishani beat Dhiren 6/11, 11/5, 11/9. The youngest sibling of the trio, Shriya Persaud from category H, beat Jnae Singh to reign unbeaten in her Category with a 2/0 triumph.
The Curtains come down today when the Finals and the GSA fund raising B-B-Q will be held at the Georgetown Club and the action starts at 10:00hrs.
