Yesterday, 26-year-old Jermaine Abel was remanded to prison for the murder of 27-year-old Hafeez Douglas, who he allegedly stabbed to death during a fight with his younger brother.
Abel appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on November 8, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he murdered Douglas.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Bess told the court that Douglas was stabbed to death after he attempted to resolve a dispute between Abel and his younger brother. The prosecutor added that after receiving the injury, Douglas collapsed to the ground and was later pronounced dead by an Emergency Medical Technician.
Prosecutor Bess disclosed that the case file is still incomplete as he is yet to uplift the post mortem report.
Abel will appear this morning before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
According to information received, Abel and his brother were fighting when the deceased separated the duo. But Abel who was reportedly armed with a knife pursued his brother to stab him.
Douglas allegedly grabbed the knife from Abel and pushed him away.
Reports are that Abel got angry and turned his rage on Douglas, stabbing him to the chest—causing him to fall into a nearby drain. Abel then ran to the North Ruimveldt Police Outpost and reported the matter.
