Ministry of the Presidency staffer, Christopher Lesprase, testified to seeing the body of an elderly man ‘hanging through’ the window of minibus BVV 5273, which was involved in an accident at the intersection of D’Urban and Smyth Streets, Georgetown.
The accident resulted in the death of cricket coach, Daniel Richmond.
Building Constructor, Elton Carter, 29, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, has since been charged with causing the man’s death. It is alleged that on May 21, he drove motor pick up GRR 8350, in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Richmond.
He has denied the charged and is out on bail.
When the trial continued on Tuesday before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman, Lesprase said that on the day in question he was hanging out at Classique Bar at the intersection of Smyth and D’Urban Streets, Georgetown when he heard a loud impact. He said that seconds later, a child was tossed into the bar, through its partially closed shutters.
According to the Ministry staffer, he also observed the body of an elderly man hanging through the window of the minibus which was parked on the pavement.
Gordon Richards, a Customs Officer, was also called to testify by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield.
Attorney-at-Law, Stanley Moore, who is representing Carter, declined to cross examine the witnesses.
This trial continues on October 20. And the prosecutor is expected to call six more witnesses.
Richmond who was in his sixties was killed when the speeding Toyota Tacoma GRR 8350 slammed into a Route 41 minibus BVV 5273 in which he was travelling. The man was seen hanging through the bus window covered in blood for several minutes before he was transported to the hospital.
According to reports, the silver-coloured minibus had just picked up passengers from the ‘South Park” and was proceeding east along D’Urban Street, when the driver of the bronze-coloured Toyota Tacoma, which was heading south along Smyth Street, failed to stop at the intersection.
The Toyota Tacoma slammed into the side of the minibus which toppled several times and crashed into a utility pole before coming to a halt.
