Guyana will begin its campaign to secure the male Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Under-16 Championship title and a place in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Championships tonight against Aruba at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The male and female CBC U-16 Championships will be held during July 3-16, 2016 with 10 teams competing in the male Championships. All the teams are in Guyana and The Ministry of Tourism officially welcomed them last night at a Cocktail Reception at Colgrain House.
The top three teams in both male and female Championships will qualify for the FIBA U-17 World Championships. Guyana is in Group B with Aruba, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
Guyana is scheduled to play Aruba in the featured game tonight at 8:30pm after an Opening Ceremony that is on the programme for 7:45pm. Group A features Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, The British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Dominica.
The first game today begins at 1pm with Bahamas taking on Antigua and Barbuda in Group A, while Barbados play BVI in the second game and Jamaica take on Suriname in the third game before the Opening Ceremony and massive Guyana vs. Aruba showdown.
