The FOUR Guyanese players including the lone female, Priyanna Ramdhani have all booked quarter final places at this year’s Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Individual Championships which are currently underway in the Dominican Republic.
Playing at Club Prados in Santo Domingo on the opening day, Thursday, following the conclusion of the Team Championships where Guyana ended third of six countries, Ramdhani’s brother, Narayan the #3 seed, Jonathan Mangra and Tyrese Jeffrey all recorded wins.
Following are the results from day one:
Boys Under-19 Singles: Narayan Ramdhani (Guyana) defeated Dominic Howard (Barbados) in Round 2; 21-10, 21-8.
Under-19 Mix Doubles: Narayan Ramdhani (Guyana) and Anjali Paragsingh (Trinidad) defeated Leonardo Chong (Panama) and Franchesca Lebron (Dominican Republic) in Round 1; 21-7, 21-2.
Boys Under-17 Singles: Jonathan Mangra (Guyana) lost to No. 2 Seed Reneldo Sinanan (Trinidad) in Round 2; 21-14, 21-19.
Under-17 Mix Doubles: Jonathan Mangra (Guyana) and Vitmary Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) went down to No. 3 Seeded Joel Angus and Alana Bailey of Jamaica in Round 1; 21-6, 21-12.
Boys Under-15 Singles: Tyrese Jeffrey (Guyana) brushed aside Shomari Smith (Barbados) in Round 1; 21-13, 21-15.
Under-15 Mixed Doubles: No.4 Seeded players Priyanna Ramdhani and Tyrese Jeffrey (Guyana) eased past Tijae Hinds and Imani Gaynor (Jamaica) in Round 1; 21-3, 21-8.
Meanwhile, session yesterday afternoon were postponed due to the threat of a storm. Play will continue today.
