– Utility company needs GWI’s intervention
Technical personnel of the Kwakwani Utility Incorporated (KUI) are currently trouble shooting the water network to find out what is causing the unintentional restricted flow of water to certain areas.
A representative of KUI, during an interview with this publication yesterday, confirmed that several households in Kwakwani Park are not accessing water through their taps. This has been the case for about five years.
He noted that on Friday last, the company was able to fix a broken pipeline that was inhibiting the flow of water to certain households. In fact, about a week ago water was not reaching taps in five households.
The representative indicated that the water pressure is high; hence, there is no reason why the commodity should not reach the households. However, whilst trying to locate the reason for the restriction, it was observed there were illegal connections along the network.
He noted that underground breakages could be difficult to detect since the water would not necessarily flow to the top. As such, KUI has requested assistance from the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) to provide a technical team to help locate and fix the problem.
Chief Executive Officer of GWI, Shaik Baksh could not be reached for a comment on this new matter. Previously, Baksh had said GWI is concerned about the matter. GWI helps to provide financing to KUI for capital works such as laying of pipelines.
Jocelyn Morian, a resident of Kwakwani commented on facebook.com that water pressure was bursting pipes in one section of the community. He requested that help be given to the KUI plumbing department to find and fix the problem.
He said that areas that were without water are now getting it at an exceedingly high pressure while other sections are not getting any. On the facebook page, Kwakwani Park, there are pictures of a vehicle similar to a fire truck distributing water around the community.
