Two men are in police custody assisting with investigations into a shooting incident at the Ann’s Grove Market Square which occurred around 0:10 hours yesterday.
Police said that 31-year old Kwesi Fernandes of Two Friends Village, East Coast Demerara was treated at the Georgetown hospital for a gunshot wound to his right forearm which he sustained during a confrontation with a licensed firearm holder.
According to the police, licensed firearm holder Eon Evans, 38 years of Victoria, also on the East Coast of Demerara, and his brother, were imbibing at the Ann’s Grove Market Square when they became involved in an argument with a female.
During the argument they were attacked by a group of men, including Fernandes, who was allegedly armed with an ice-pick.
Evans was stabbed in his right shoulder and he in turn discharged two rounds from his firearm hitting Fernandes.
Evans subsequently reported the matter to the police and soon after, Fernandes turned up.
Both men were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where they were treated and sent away.
They however remained in police custody as detectives ascertain how to proceed.
