– the action continues Wednesday in Albouystown
Inclement weather postponed the 15 games in the Mackeson Smooth Moves 3-on-3 Tournament that were scheduled for the Burnham Basketball Court Saturday night, but the nation-wide event shifted to the Bartica yesterday before resuming in Georgetown.
Heavy rainfall forced the organisers of the event to postpone the 15 games that were to be played at the Burnham Court Saturday night. Brands Coordinator for the primary sponsors of the contest Ansa McAl, Nigel Worrel said the postponed games will be played this weekend.
“Tonight’s (Saturday) games will be played this weekend, but the schedule will continue as normal with the game going on in Albouystown on Wednesday as planned,” Worrel said, adding that every effort will be made to ensure that the high standards of the tournament are maintained.
Worrel said that he will not expose teams and players to slippery surfaces, which would increase their risks of getting injuries. He said that what he has observed is that most of the players in the tournament are playing for clubs and he has to take precautions.
The Mackeson Smooth Moves tournament offers a $1m first place prize or alternatively, a trip to the NBA All-Stars 2011 in Orlando. Worrel believes that with so much at stake he wants the best conditions for players to have an equal opportunity to getting the ultimate prize.
