Berbician Kelsie George will step into the ring tomorrow as he makes his professional debut and promises to make his professional carrier an inspirational and successful sojourn. He will match gloves with Troy Lewis in a four round middleweight match up.
He works out at the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym at the People National Congress Building at Strand and St Magdalene Street in New Amsterdam. George has been training constantly and has stepped up his preparation over the past four weeks for his big day and has gone through a rigorous schedule. He has been training daily under the watchful eyes of Coach and Founder of the
Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym Orland “Pocket Rocket” Rogers and Former Amateur Boxer Monty Bovell.
George who has been boxing at the Amateur Level since 2006 is the first boxer from the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym to be entering the ring as a professional and according to Rogers there is no way his charge is going to lose this fight.
According to George, “I intend to have a successful professional carrier and no one will be allowed to stand in my way,” stating that he intends to become one of Guyana’s future world champions.
The tall and rangy fighter is prepared for anything and scoffs at the thought that his opponent is an experience fighter. “I can fight at any style and is prepared for any fight and anything he has to offer. At the end of the encounter I will be the winner one way or the other. I have the pride of Berbice on my back I am not going to let them down.”
Apart from the George/Hill contest, another debutant Shaheed Ali will take on Skeete in a Bantamweight match up. In other fights Barbadian Miguel Antoine would oppose Jermaine King, while Simeon Hardy goes after Winston Pompey in the main attraction over 6 rounds.
The action gets underway at 20:00hrs.
Two other fighters from the Gym Richard Williamson, the nephew of Howard Eastman and Keishan Simon will also be fighting in the amateur category. (Samuel Whyte)
