Gold miner Kenny France was yesterday admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being severely burnt at Port Kaituma, in the North West District.
He was reportedly set alight by a man who had shown an ‘interest’ in his girlfriend.
This news paper understands that France was walking along what was described as a dark and narrow track when gasoline was thrown on him. Seconds later he was turned into a ball of fire.
“I fall to de ground and I get a glimpse of he, and it was de same man I de talk to (about my girl). It is he and nobody can’t tell me is not he I see,” France related.
The 42-year-old man indicated that the problem stemmed from an incident two days prior to him being attacked.
He recalled that he was consuming alcohol at a shop and saw the suspected attacker whom he confronted and warned not to speak to his girlfriend anymore. He said that it was the first time he had ever spoken to his alleged assailant.
The injured father of two stated that he is now experiencing pain throughout his entire body, which includes complications while urinating, since doctors have inserted tubes to assist.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect was subsequently arrested and is in police custody.
