St. Pius defeated Region 2 by 34 runs in the final of the Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham Memorial Mixed Team Circle Tennis Competition which was played recently, at the Carifesta Sports Complex.
Taking to the circle first after wining the toss, St Pius made 133-5 off the allotted 30 deliveries with Shane Allicock 76 and Orin Paris 41, being the principal scorers.
Region #2 who had to chase in fading light closed on 99-3. Steve Moore hit 30, while Andrey Jeffrey supported with 25.
Earlier in semi-final action-
Region 2 beat Den Amstel by 9 runs.
Region #2 139-1, Sherwin Moore 79, Richie Bishops 40
Den Amstel in reply, reached 130-1, Boswell Layne 61, Joseph Payne 40.
St. Pius then crushed Rockets All Stars by 76 runs.
St Pius 124-5, Phillip Fraser 52.
Rockets All Stars 48-8, Simeon Sam 29.
Den Amstel finished third.
In the opening game- St. Pius beat Den Amstel by 102 runs.
St Pius made 269-5, Shane Allicock 95, Shawn Gray 76, Phillip Fraser 37.
The newly formed Den Amstel Team replied with 167-5, Donstain Armstrong 42, Sevelyn Austin 34, Sheldon Austin 32.
Region 2 then coasted to an emphatic 209 runs win over Parika.
Region #2 made 296-1, Richie Bishop 78, Sherwin Moore 76, Andes Jeffrey 40, Steve Morris 38.
Parika turn in reply, could only muster 87-9, Royden Hendricks 35.
Rocket All Stars then beat Parika by 62 runs.
Rockets All Stars 154-3, Simeon Sam 92.
Parika 92-5, Travis Johnson 27.
Five teams participated in the day’s programme including Region #2 team, Den Amstel Circle Tennis Club, Parika Sports Club, Rockets All Stars, & St Pius Sports Complex.
The Most Disciplined team award went to Parika; Best Uniform team- Region #2, while the Highest Scorer was- Shane Allicock
General Secretary of the PNCR Oscar Clarke and other senior party members addressed the teams shortly before the start of play.
Mark Walkes, President Region #3 Circle Tennis Sub-Association co-ordinated the day’s activities.
