With Guyana in the ascendancy in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship and the second leg set for Bushy Park, Barbados late August, local motor racers will be using the upcoming July 18 Race Meet as ample warm-up for the regional showdown.
Word from the fraternity is that most of Guyana’s representatives that participated in the opening leg of the Series that was held in Jamaica will be on show, while the cream of the crop in the local line-up are also expected to take to the starting line in what is sizing up to be a very competitive Meet.
Among those anticipated to participate are veteran Andrew King, who will be looking to redeem himself after suffering mechanical problems in Jamaica that forced him out of all three races in the Caribbean Series, while third placed Kevin Jeffrey, Paul Vieira, and Mark Vieira, all of who formed part of the Guyanese contingent will be there as well.
A source close to the Guyana Motor Racing &Sports Club told this newspaper that most of the drivers and riders are busy modifying their machines and making improvements and it is anticipated that all the races will be extremely competitive and fans are being urged to make it a date to be at the South Dakota Circuit.
In addition to the usually eagerly anticipated Group Four category, the clash between Guyana’s Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira and Canadian Kevin Graham, who shattered the lap record at Dover Speedway, should be fascinating to watch.
The source informed that drivers are expected from Trinidad and Tobago, neighbouring Suriname, and Canada, adding to what is truly shaping up to provide fans with some exciting races.
Twenty-four races are carded for the day including those for Group Three, Two, Rookies, 125cc Bike, and Go- karts.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
