In the observance of Guyana’s 44th Independence anniversary, the Region Two administration kicked off its annual flag raising ceremony at the Anna Regina Fire Station Tarmac.
The programme accommodated a March parade, featuring members of the Joint Services and officers of the fire station.
The March took off from the Anna Regina Police Station then to the Fire Station. There followed the inspection of officers by Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy.
On hand to welcome the Joint Service, were students of the Anna Regina Multilateral and Cottonfield Secondary Schools also students of the New Opportunity Corps. The early morning ceremony also attracted Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh, Commander of “G” Division, Christopher Griffith, regional officials and Members of Parliament.
Addressing the occasion, Mr. Baksh said that in celebrating the 44th independence anniversary, Guyana as a nation should reflect on the struggles made by the different ethnic groups in Guyana.
He also urged the audience to make an effort to know their historical facts.
Minster Ramsammy, delivering the keynote address urged those who attended to get together in observance of Guyana’s independence and to also celebrate. He also urged everyone to hold their heads up high because their ancestors played an integral role, which should not be forgotten.
There was the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead after the recitation of prayers from the different faiths.
