Led by 43 from 18-year-old Stefanie Taylor, 41 from fellow teenager Deandra Dottin and 40 from 26-year-old Stacy-Ann King, West Indies beat England by 1 wicket with 21 balls to spare in the 3rd Womens’ ODI in St Kitts yesterday to clinch the 3-match series 2-1.
Left-hander Lydia Greenway top scored with 60 before she was run out as England reached 176-9 off their allotted 50 overs as veteran 40-year-old Pamela Lavine was again in the action for the home team with 3-29 from 10 overs.
The Caribbean lasses without the Guyanese pair of Shamaine Campbell and Tremaine Smartt, then reached 179-9 in 46.3 overs although Merissa Aguilleira (14) was the only other West Indian batter to reach double figures in the deciding match after Lavine was dismissed for a duck with just a single on the board.
The 2 teams begin the 3-match 20/20 series tomorrow in St Kitts, which will host all of the preliminary matches in next year’s Womens’ 20/20 World Cup before the semis are staged in St Lucia and the final in Barbados.
