The Rising Sun Turf Club at Arima Park on the West Coast of Berbice is where the Horseracing bandwagon gallops for its next stop.
The venue is the place to be on Sunday November 15 when the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the Lions Club of Durban Park and the Central Demerara Lions Club stages a grand one day horse race meet.
Competitors will be vying for over 2.5 million dollars, which will be available in cash and trophies.
With so much on offer a scintillating and action packed day of racing is anticipated, as most of the country top horses have already indicated an interest in the day’s proceedings.
There are a number of top notch events carded for the days programme with three feature events on the day’s card namely the C and lower, the 3 yr old classic for horses Born and Bred in the West Indies and Guyana and the 2 yr old event. There are also two other top notch races for horses classified F and one for the G class horses.
The C class event which has a first prize of $300,000 will see the horses galloping over a distance of 1400m.
Spectators will once again see the top three year olds in the country in action as they battle for the top prize of $250,000 over 1600m.
The incentive for the winner in the Two Year old event is worth $200,000. This race will be run over a distance of 1300m.
The F Class race which will also be run over a 1300m distance and see the winner taking away the $160,000 first prize.
There is the G class event with a $100,000 first prize available for the winner covering a distance is 1400m.
The H class event has a winning tag of $90,000 and is over 1300m. The J and K and lower winning money is $80,000 and the distance is also 1300m.
The L class category is the final race on the day and victory in this event will see the champion taking home $75,000 in the 1100m sprint.
Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market will once again be sponsoring the champion jockey and champion trainer trophies. Race time is 13.30 hrs and according to the organisers the track will be in good condition. Popular sound system Rhythm Stars International will be in attendance to spice up the day and Turfites are encouraged to come out early as the event will get on the way on time. Medical facilities as usual will be available.
