ALBION, CORENTYNE – Detectives in Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force are on the hunt for a suspected pirate who was reportedly shot during an incident just off the Albion Foreshore.
According to reports, about 20:30 hours on Tuesday, boat owner Bridjmohan Carpen of Chesney Front, Albion and his fisherman Latchman Persaud of Kilcoy Squatting Area had just returned from sea.
The crew had moored at the Albion Koker when they were allegedly pounced on by five men who appeared from the direction of the land. It was disclosed that the men were masked and carried what appeared to be long guns.
At the said time there were three other persons – Jeffrey Kenneth of Fyrish Road , Sunnildat Chandradat and Nandoo both of Chesney, standing at the Koker area.
The gunmen compelled them to go aboard Carpen’s boat and the vessel sailed off with the five men. On their way out to sea, apparently there was a struggle and one of the gunmen lashed Carpen with a firearm. In the process the weapon went off and shot one of his accomplices.
The vessel returned to land in the vicinity of the Rose Hall Town Foreshore where the five gunmen ordered their captives to jump overboard.
The five men swam ashore and the matter was subsequently reported to the police.
About 06:15 hours yesterday Wednesday the vessel was found about 200 yards off the Port Mourant Foreshore.
According to police reports, everything was intact.
However, only a mobile phone was taken from Carpen during the incident.
